Further lending to this belief, Subnautica animator and generalist developer Scott MacDonald replied to a fan’s question on the Tweet’s comments, seemingly confirming that the sequel will involve a period of early access, similar to the previous Subnautica titles. While the Tweet offered no unique details or dates, many franchise fans feel an official reveal could be looming. Can't say when, but it's gonna be awesome. We'll have tons of stuff to show from the next game though. I really need to work on some new things soon. My Shire scene was 2 years ago! Time is flying by.

Still, when Liam Tart, Lead Artist at Unknown Worlds, tweeted on his personal Twitter account claiming that the team would have a lot of exciting content to show off soon, things became real in the eyes of fans. The excitement reached a new high when news got out that Unknown Worlds, the team behind the game, had started to hire staff to work on the next game in the Subnautica universe. Then in May of 2021, fans were delighted when Subnautica: Below Zero, a direct sequel to the first game and its events, was officially launched, but they weren’t left satisfied and, in the years since, have been counting down the days until the next Subnautica game would be revealed.
